Born on December 11th, 1981 in Brooklyn New York, Alonzo quickly gained interest in the music field. Descending from musically inclined parents, Alonzo’s talents were there, but no one knew they would grow and develop as soon as they did. Alonzo’s father, Alonzo Lonnie Ferguson, constantly traveled with such artists as Millie Jackson and Keith Sweat. During time off from school, Alonzo would follow alongside his father soaking in the business. Even at a young age, Alonzo still had to work on tour; his job consisted of placing nametags on dressing room doors. Today he still works alongside his father, but his job title and description has changed. Alonzo is now Road, Production and Stage Managing for major artists. He has always had a passion for music, there is nothing else in this world Alonzo wanted to do.
While on summer vacation in Miami when Alonzo was 14, his father put him to work at his uncle’s production company ‘Backstage Productions’ working various concerts that came to town. Alonzo was never given the easy route by either parent and had to start at the bottom as a stage hand. This consisted of very early load-ins and very late load outs, setting up sound stages for such artists like *NSync, Britney Spears, Eminem, Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Jay-Z, etc. The hours were long and pay was bad, but this was something Alonzo knew he had to do to get to where he wanted. At the age of 18, Alonzo was hired as a stage/drum tech for Blu Cantrell on her debut tour and embarked on a two year journey that would ultimately pay off in a huge way. Mid-way through the Blu Cantrell tour, Alonzo was promoted to a stage manager and left the days of heavy lifting behind him. At just 19, Alonzo endured a lot of criticism and disrespect because of jealous workers twice his age having to take command from someone they view as a “kid”. Alonzo’s age was always put into question but his work ethic and results could never be. Time and time again Alonzo showed that he was the best for the position given to him and by the conclusion of the Blu Cantrell tour, he was being praised by his peers and superiors for his work. Following Blu Cantrell, Alonzo was hired as a stage manger by the Clipse for their ‘Grinding’ promotional tour and the Nelly ‘Nellyville’ tour in which Clipse was the opening act. Alonzo has also been hired for stage managing positions at various concert spot dates.
In 2005, Alonzo was once again promoted to a position he has been striving for since the age of 14. Alonzo was hired as Road Manager for the R&B group Silk and finally a major goal had been accomplished. In 2008, Alonzo had the pleasure of road managing pop icon Akon and in the same year he began road managing R&B legend Keith Sweat (whom his father road managed nearly 20 years before). Through the years, Alonzo has founded Sagipion Entertainment (saj-a-pee-un) and FergusonFerguson Touring. Aside from road, production and stage managing, Alonzo has had the pleasure to tour with artists such as Nelly, Sisqo, Fabolous, City High, Jay-Z, O-Town, Tank, Teenia Marie, Maze featuring Frankie Beverley, H-Town, Next, Case, Sean Paul, Wyclef Jean, Kardinal Offishal, BBD, Johnny Gill, etc.
Alonzo Ferguson Jr. is out to make himself a place in history and this is just the beginning. Twenty years from now, you will still see Alonzo on top.
